Her problem isn't the ceremony of conversion, it's that people lied to her. They removed part of her inherent identity without warning. Once concept of "self" is changed in such a dramatic fashion, it's traumatizing and requires you to incorporate a new, modified sense of self. Sorry, I just get worked up when people treat it like some kind of formality for the rabbis or the community. For sincere converts, it is a symbol of joining the covenant between man and God, not man and the whims of a judgemental community.
